With the MVCC baseball team finally being able to hit the field as the snow banks recede, the Hawks split a doubleheader against Hudson Valley Community College at Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field.
The Hawks (2-2 conference, 6-6 overall) won the nightcap 6-3 in this Region III contest. This is the second meeting with the Vikings as the Hawks split that series which was held in Troy.
MVCC took control of game with a four-run rally in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 6-1. The Vikings rallied for two runs in the sixth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
The man with the hot bat was Bryan McGuire as he went 2-for-3, including a double, and scored two runs. He also drove in one run to improve his batting average to .233. Alex McLean also helped in the rally for the Hawks with an RBI-double, his seventh RBI of the season. McLean is batting .333 that includes a homerun. Bryce Petterson had two hits for two RBIs and scored a run as MVCC finished with eight hits on the night.
Working the mound for the Hawks was Jesse Witmeyer (1-0) as he took the win. He allowed three runs on five hits and three walks. But it was his 11 strikeouts that held the Vikings at bay. Coming in for the save was McGuire, his second of the season, as he struck out one batter in his single inning on the mound.
