Hawks finish season strong-looking forward to 2015

The MVCC Baseball Team finished the 2014 season with a final overall record of 19-17 including a mark of 14-10 in the Region III Eastern Division. The Hawks won 8 of their last 10 games to qualify for the Regional Playoffs for the 36th time in the program's history.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Team MVP Bryce Patterson (Corning) with a .311 average and 20 RBI's. Stephen Scialdo (Herkimer) hit .338 and drove in 17 runs while being selected to the All-Mountain Valley Conference Team. John Savo (Solvay) led the offensive attack with a team high batting average of .370 and stolen bases with 16. Jonathan Ross (NY Mills) hit for a .333 average with 5 doubles and Matthew Thompson led the team with 25 RBI's while hitting for a .315 average. Savo, Thompson, Scialdo and Ross will all return for MVCC to lead what should be a very good offensive attack.

The MVCC pitching staff was a complete team effort with multiple players earning 2 or more victories this season. The Hawks will lose 5 of 6 pitchers in the starting rotation heading into next year so they will have some key spots to fill when school resumes in the Fall. The lone returner in the starting rotation will be Jeff Cooke (Rome Free Academy).
