Hawks Battle Back But Come Up Short To End Season

The MVCC Men's Basketball team closed out their season with a 96-90 OT loss to Eastfield College in the NJCAA National Basketball Tournament in Loch Sheldrake, NY.

The Hawks fell behind early in the opening half before using an 11-3 run to tie the game at 23-23 with 7:20 left in the first half.

MV trailed at the half 40-33 but a pair of jumpers by Creig Goldson, two three point buckets by Devonte Wilson and a lay-up by Kyron Allen brought the Hawks within one with 16:49 left in the game.  Wilson's layup at the 12:46 mark put MVCC in the lead.  Eastfield battled back and both teams traded baskets until MVCC went up five, 80-75, with less than two minutes to play.

Eastfield took the lead at 81-80 and Wilson was followed on a drive to the basket. He hit the first free throw but the second rattled out and the game went to overtime tied at 81.

Goldson scored the first two points of overtime for the Hawks before Eastfield went on an 8-0 run and MV couldn't recover.

Goldson finished with a game high 31 points. Wilson added 23 and Allen finished the game with 12.

MV finished the season at 22-11 and sixth overall in the nation following their first national tournament appearence.  Congratulations to Coach Matt St. Croix and the men's basketball team on everything you accomplished this year.
