Hawks open season with strong performance

The MVCC men's cross country team opened the 2014 season with an impressive performance at the Eighth Annual SUNY IT Short Course Invitational this past Sunday in Marcy.

The Hawks finished with a team score of 157 points which placed them sixth overall against both two-year and four-year institutions. SUNY Oswego, the always powerhouse in cross country, took first place honors with 30 points followed by SUNY Oneonta with 51. The Hawks beat out programs from Morrisville State, Cazenovia College, SUNY Broome, Herkimer College and SUNY ESF.

The top runner for the Hawks was sophomore Todd Stevens with an 18th place finish in a time of 21 minutes, one second in the 6K-course. Newcomer Barrett Celecki placed 26th in 21:27 while sophomore Stephen Paddock was 31st in 21:36. Connor Butters was 43rd in 22:15.
