MVCC softball players receive post-season honors

The Mohawk Valley Community College women's softball team continues to receive post-season honors as several players have been named to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region III team.

The Hawks finished the 2009 season with a 30-10 overall record that included going 24-9 in Region III. This year's squad set four team records with runs scored (339), hits (441), doubles (75) and triples (28).

Heading the list of honored athletes was Jenae Morrissey (Utica/Proctor HS) who was first team All-Region III, first team All-Mountain Valley Conference and Player of the Year for the Mountain Valley Conference as catcher.

Kayla Crister (Herkimer/Herkimer HS) was also named first team All-Region III along with All-Tournament for the Region III playoff series. She was also selected first team All-Mountain Valley Conference at shortstop. Jessica Anson (Utica/Proctor HS) was selected All-Tournament for Region III while being named second team All-Region III and second team All-Mountain Valley Conference.

The Hawks finished the season in second place for the Mountain Valley Conference and finished as runners up for the Region III playoff.

Other MVCC players receiving honors this season include Tonya Snyder (Lowville/Lowville HS) as an outfielder on the first team All-Mountain Valley Conference and Desiree Fauvelle (Newport/West Canada Valley CS) as a pitcher on the first team All-Conference.

MVCC players receiving second team All-Mountain Valley Conference honors are Bianca Brown (Utica/Whitesboro HS) at first base, Meghan Power (Hagaman/Amsterdam HS) at third base, Jennifer Carter (Amsterdam/Broadabin-Perth HS) and Savka Browneski (Massapequa/Massapequa HS) as outfielders.
