The MVCC Lady Hawks defeated Tompkins Cortland Community College 14-3 in 5 innings in game one of a doubleheader played at Cornell University.
In the first game, with the wind being a factor, MVCC scored scored first on sac fly by former West Canada Valley player Carissa Tasovac that scored RFA grad Courteney Fiorenza.
TC3 took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first before the MVCC bats started to come alive, as they went ahead 3-2 when former Adirondack grad Aliza Mathis and Proctor grad Celine Laracuente both hit RBI singles.
MVCC had 19 hits in the game, which produce a three run 3rd inning, and a 7 run 4th inning.
Carissa Tasovac's hit her first collegiate home-run, a blast to right center. and Cortlynn Jespen and Mathis paced the Hawks with 3 hits apiece. Sherburne-Earlville grad Emma Hodges, picking up her 2nd win of the season, was able to settle in finding her groove on the mound for the Hawks, giving up 8 hits, and no walks over 5 innings.
