Head Coach Jason Carpenter enters his 9th season at the helm for the Hawks. During his previous eight seasons, Coach Carpenter's teams have compiled an outstanding 212-46 overall record, captured 5 regional championships, 7 conference championships, 3 National 3rd place finishes and National Runners-up in 2013. The Hawks have been ranked nationally in the top 5 in each of his eight previous seasons. The impressive accomplishments of his teams resulted in Coach Carpenter earning the distinction of being selected as the NJCAA District A Coach of the Year in 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016 & 2017 and the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Women's Junior College Coach of the Year in 2017.
Although Coach Carpenter is most proud of what his teams have accomplished together, he is also very proud of the recognition and opportunities the Mohawk Valley Women’s Basketball program has created for his individual players. During his first eight seasons the Hawks have seen; 4 players selected NJCAA All-American, 3 NJCAA Region III Players of the Year, 17 All-NJCAA Region III, and 24 All-Mountain Valley Conference. The Hawks players are routinely recruited nationally to continue their playing career at the NCAA Division I, II, and III levels. “It is important our teams are successful, but the overall goal of this program is to assist our players in their growth as people, students, and players. I want Mohawk Valley and this basketball program to be stepping stone in a lifetime of success in all avenues of our young ladies lives,” says Coach Carpenter.
A Sauquoit, NY native, Coach Carpenter attended Mohawk Valley CC and was a two year member of the men’s basketball team. During the 2003-2004 seasons he was named a team captain en route to a #5 national ranking and #1 regional ranking. Coach Carpenter also excelled in the classroom earning recognition as a Distinguished Academic All-American. Upon graduating from Mohawk Valley CC, Coach Carpenter enrolled at SUNY Oneonta where he majored in History and worked as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball team for the 2004, 2005, & 2006 seasons. Coach Carpenter returned to Mohawk Valley CC as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach in 2007 & 2008 before taking over the women’s program in 2009. In addition to leading the Hawks, Coach Carpenter currently works as Assistant to the Athletic Director and is the proud father of Isabella and Jadon Carpenter.
