MVCC women's soccer team falls in national title game

It was a pitched battle for the MVCC women's soccer team which saw the Hawks matching Brookdale Community College goal for goal until the very end. But the Hawks fell just shy as Brookedale CC captured the championship crown at Sunday's National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III Women's Soccer National Championship Tournament at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

This 4-3 loss to Brookdale dashed the hopes of the MVCC squad which was looking to repeat at the national champions.

Brookdale drew first blood at the 20:23 mark when Caroline Duerr broke the ice. At the 35:00, Brookdale extended its lead on a shot by Brooke Tartis, but the Hawks (17-3) came right back to cut the lead on an unassisted goal by MVCC's Meghan Carlo at the 40:00 mark.

Entering the second half with a 2-1 lead, Brookdale extended its lead just two minutes into the action on a goal by AlexMasino. The Hawks were not to be deterred as Jordan Case scored back-to-back goals at the 25- and 30-minute marks to tie the game. These goals were assisted by Carlo and Silvana Giovannone, respectively.
