Women's soccer win first round of national tournament

The MVCC women's soccer team advanced through first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association's Division III Women's Soccer National Championship on Friday by defeating Richland Community College, 3-1, at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Meghan Carlo was the driving force being the Hawks' offense with her first goal off an assist from Ashley O'Connor. The Hawks' lead was extended by an unassisted goal from Brianna George. Carlo put the game on ice and into the record books with her second goal with 1:35 left in the first half. The Hawks out shot Richland, 9-6.

The Hawks advance to play in the semi-final round on Friday at 3 p.m. against Holyoke College.
