The Mohawk Valley Community College women's team went into the playoffs as the defending champions of Region III. But the Hawks were unable to hold off the strong performance of the No. 2 seeded Genesee Community College squad.

The Hawks, who finish their season 12-5-1, were shut out by Genesee 4-0 Tuesday's Region III semi-final game in Rochester. Genesee got on the board early in the game when Kathryn Springsteen put a shot between the pipes just 39 seconds into the game. Ashley Makowski extended the lead for Genesee off a pass from Springsteen at the 30:52 mark. Makowski tallied an insurance goal late in the second half.

MVCC's Taylor Moquin made four saves on the day as Genesee outshot the Hawks 15-4, which accounts for the host's edge in corner kicks – 8-1.
