Brutsky Wins Singles Title, Hawks Finish Third in Region

MVCC's Ella Brutsky won the NJCAA Region III First Singles title and the Lady Hawks finished third in the Region following the two day tournament in Queensbury.

Brutsky lost the first set to Lauren Demetreus 1-6 before rallying for two consecutive 6-1 victories. She is the first Hawks regional winner since 2007 and the first 1st singles regional champion since 2002. Brutsky will compete the in the NJCAA National Championships in Peachtree City, Georgia from October 22-24. 

Other Regional Final Action: 

MVCC's Cheyenne Smith lost in the 5th singles finals: 6-1, 6-1.

MVCC's Tina Le lost a heartbreaker in the 6th singles finals: 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-1

Smith/Le lost in the finals of third doubles 6-2, 6-2.

 

Other MVCC Competitors:

Stephanie Calhoun lost 7-5, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of second singles

Nicole Dawson lost 7-5, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of third singles

Christina Schafer lost 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals of fourth singles

Brutsky/Dawson lost 6-3, 7-5 in the first doubles semifinals.

Schafer/Calhoun lost 6-3, 7-5 in the second doubles quarterfinals.
