The Hawks struggled in every phase of the game, as they served a dismal 79 percent. The sluggish performance was highlighted by the lack of transitioning and an inability to pass with consistency.
It was a difficult day for the Mohawk Valley Community College women's volleyball team during a POD competition at Onondaga Community College on Saturday.
Against the host team, the Hawks fell 3-0 with scores of 25-16, 25-10, and 25-15.
Brooke Staelens was on top of her game with 12 assists and four digs while Anthonae Sheard was the Hawks leading scorer with seven points. She also had six kills. Susana Brutsky scored three kills and five digs as Marisa Holden tallied six points on top of her 10 digs and five kills.
Cayuga CC 3, Mohawk Valley CC 0
The Hawks reached the edge three times against Cayuga Community College, but just couldn't put it over the top as they fell 3-0.
Leading the Hawks in this match at Onondaga Community College was Anthonae Sheard with 11 kills for 15 points as MVCC fell by the scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-20. On defense, the Hawks were led by Abbey Dearwester with seven digs and Logann Dolan with eight digs. But leading the entire team was Ariel Ortlieb with 11 digs to go with her one kill.
Jefferson CC 3, Mohawk Valley CC 0
The Hawks came out cold in this first match of the day and couldn't find the momentum needed against Jefferson Community College. Anthonae Sheard was the Hawks' top scorer with eight points, but Jefferson battled the net for final scores of 25-11, 25-15 and 25-17. Both Sheard and Brooke Staelens made six digs while the latter made six assists.
The Hawks look to get back on track, playing their brand of volleyball, when they host HCC on Wednesday.
