DGV event for students: Learn to leverage your team experiences into professional opportunities

The MVCC Athletics Department and Career Services Department have teamed up for a DGV event for students called "How to Leverage Your Team Experiences into Professional Opportunities," with guest speakers former Division I/professional athletes DJ Carstensen, Miriam Merrill, and Kevin Green, at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, in Schafer Theater, Information Technology Building, at the College's Utica campus.

This event will be especially beneficial to student-athletes and students majoring in physical education and recreation and leisure services. It starts at 5:30 with a meet and greet, and then the panelists will share stories about how their own athletic and team experiences have helped them professionally. Students will receive DGV credit for attending, and there will be food provided.

More details on the guest speakers:

  • DJ Carstensen: Division I Men's Basketball referee, Utica College Pioneer Hall of Famer, and former Division I basketball player at Utica College.
  • Miriam Merrill: Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator at Hamilton College, former head track and field coach at Robert Morris University in Chicago, University of Cincinnati Hall of Famer, and first All-America honoree in the University of Cincinnati Women's Track and Field Program history.
  • Kevin Green: Director of the Oneida County Youth Bureau, head varsity baseball coach at New Hartford, a member of the Greater Utica Sports Hall of Fame, Ohio Dominican University Hall of Famer, former professional baseball player with the Florida Marlins Minor League System, and three-time collegiate All-American.
