MVCC Baseball Spring Training

The Mohawk Valley Community College baseball team has been training hard during the off season in preparation for the 2014 season and their annual trip to the Cal Ripken training facility in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The Hawks will open the season with a St. Patrick's Day doubleheader. The Hawks will take on Northampton CC at 3 p.m. and follow up with a contest against Bunker Hill CC at 6 p.m. Set to take the mound in the first game for the Hawks is Sophomore Ed Zakrzewski (Rome). Talented freshman Marcus Failing (Fort Plain) will get the nod in the nightcap.

Day two of the trip features a doubleheader with the Hawks facing Bergen CC at noon, then Triton College at 3 p.m. Hard throwing freshman Jesse Whitmeyer (Verona) will start game one for the Hawks. He will be followed by local standout Jeff Cooke (Rome) in game two.

MVCC will be playing Ancilla College and Bunker Hill CC on Wednesday followed by single games against Chesapeake College and Ancilla College on Thursday and Friday to round out the trip. The Hawks will be looking to improve upon the 2013 season where they had a final record of 24-16 along with a regional playoff appearance.
