#5 MVCC Men's Soccer Dominates Jefferson CC 6–1 in Road Victory
Watertown, NY — The #5-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) Men's Soccer team continued their form with a 6–1 win over Jefferson Community College on Wednesday afternoon in Watertown. Powered by a hat trick from Souayibou Diop and a relentless offensive display, the Hawks improved their record and gained momentum heading into their upcoming road clash with Jamestown on Saturday, October 4.
MVCC controlled the pace from start to finish, firing off 16 shots on goal and overwhelming Jefferson's defense. Jefferson's goalkeeper, Devin Connell, was under constant pressure and made 10 saves, but the floodgates eventually opened as MVCC's attack proved too much to contain.
The breakthrough came late in the first half when Diop opened the scoring in the 41st minute, finishing a setup from Mario Camacho to give MVCC a 1–0 lead heading into halftime.
MVCC exploded offensively in the second half, netting five more goals. Diop struck again just three minutes in, this time assisted by Oscar Otero Navarro. Minutes later, Jorge Angeles added a third goal with an unassisted effort, putting the Hawks firmly in control at 3–0.
Jefferson managed to pull one back in the 63rd minute through Kyle Daly, assisted by Alessio Caruana, but MVCC quickly responded and halted any hopes of a comeback.
Francesco Tagliavini scored on a direct free kick in the 71st minute, followed by a goal from Bangalay Soumahoro in the 79th, set up by Diop, who capped off his hat trick in the final minute (89:50) on a feed from Rodrigo Silva.
MVCC keeper Anderson Costa Filho was solid between the posts, making 2 saves on 3 shots faced. The defense held firm, limiting Jefferson's chances and maintaining composure throughout the match.
The Hawks now set their sights on Saturday's road matchup against Jamestown Community College, where they'll take on the Jayhawks in a key late-season contest. Kickoff is set for Saturday, October 4th.
