#4 MVCC Men's Soccer Rolls to 7-2 Win Over Hudson Valley to Secure Mountain Valley Conference Regular Season Championship

UTICA, NY — The No. 4-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) men's soccer team closed out the regular season in dominant fashion on Saturday afternoon, cruising to a 7-2 victory over Hudson Valley Community College at home.

After a scoreless first half, both teams came alive offensively in the second, but it was the Hawks who exploded with six goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the lopsided win.

Sophomore Souayibou Diop led the way for MVCC with a second-half hat trick, netting goals in the 74th, 88th, and 89th minutes to bury the Vikings and cap off a relentless offensive display. Diop now has 17 goals on the season and continues to be a driving force in the Hawks' attack.

MVCC broke the deadlock just five minutes into the second half when Francesco Tagliavini finished off a feed from Diogo Silva. Moments later, Mario Camacho doubled the lead in the 57th minute with help from Davi Pena Moretzsohn. Hudson Valley responded with two quick goals from Joseph Davis and Camryn Curet to tie the match at 2-2 by the 69th minute.

Diop's first goal in the 74th minute reignited MVCC's offense, and the Hawks piled on four unanswered goals in the final 15 minutes. Daniel Candeias, Pena Moretzsohn, and Tagliavini all contributed to the scoring run, with Camacho finishing with a team-high three assists.

MVCC outshot Hudson Valley 18-3, including 13 shots on goal. Goalkeeper Anderson Costa Filho made two saves in the win.

With the victory, MVCC has won the Mountain Valley Conference Regular Season Championship for the 3rd straight year. The Mountain Valley Conference consists of MVCC, Herkimer College, SUNY Adirondack, Hudson Valley, Fulton Montgomery, Clinton, and North Country.

MVCC improves to 11-3-1 and will now host an NJCAA Region III Tournament semi-final match on Tuesday, October 28 at Utica University, kickoff set for 12:00 PM. Their opponent will be determined following the final seedings announcement.
