The MVCC Men's Soccer team took on the Jamestown Jayhawks in the Region III Bracket B Semi-Final by a score of 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Mohawk Valley Community College put together a commanding second-half performance to secure a 4–1 victory over Jamestown Community College on Tuesday afternoon. Despite a quiet opening 45 minutes, the Hawks exploded offensively after halftime, scoring all four of their goals in a decisive stretch.
The breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Francesco Tagliavini, assisted by Ahmadou Amar, opened the scoring for Mohawk Valley. Just six minutes later, Davi Pena Moretzsohn doubled the advantage, finishing off a setup from Mario Camacho to give the visitors firm control of the match.
Jamestown briefly narrowed the gap in the 65th minute when Casimiro Espeso Gayt capitalized on direct free kick, pulling his side within one. However, Mohawk Valley quickly regained momentum. Jorge Angeles restored the two-goal cushion in the 80th minute, finishing a well-placed pass from Diogo Silva, before Camacho added his own goal in the 87th minute to seal the result.
While Mohawk Valley's attack found its rhythm, their defensive unit remained composed, limiting Jamestown's chances throughout the match. Goalkeeper Anderson Costa Filho turned away four of five shots on goal to anchor the back line.
Jamestown goalkeeper Theo Merlin faced relentless pressure, recording 11 saves despite conceding four goals. His efforts kept the game close as Mohawk Valley piled up 19 shots and nine corner kicks in total.
With the victory, #3 seeded Mohawk Valley will take on #2 seeded Cayuga Community College in the North B Reigon III Championship on Saturday, November 1st at Genesee Community College in Batavia, NY. The winner will punch their ticket to the Final 8 where one of out 8 teams throughout the country will be crowned National Champions.
