MVCC Men's Soccer Advances to Final Four with Dominant 7–0 Win over Raritan Valley
November 12, 2025 – Herkimer, NY
The defending national champion and No. 2-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College men's soccer team continued its pursuit of back-to-back titles on Wednesday afternoon, cruising to a commanding 7–0 victory over Raritan Valley Community College in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament quarterfinals at Herkimer College. With the win, the Hawks advanced to the National Final Four, where they will face Bergen Community College on Friday, November 14 at 6:30 p.m. The semifinal matchup will take place at Herkimer College and will be streamed live on the NJCAA Network.
After a tight opening stretch, Davi Pena Moretzsohn broke through in the 23rd minute, scoring directly off a corner kick to give Mohawk Valley a 1–0 lead. That opening strike proved to be the spark the Hawks needed, igniting an offensive explosion in the second half.
Mohawk Valley erupted for six goals after halftime, overwhelming Raritan Valley with its pace and depth. Souayibou Diop was unstoppable in front of goal, scoring twice—first in the 51st minute on a brilliant setup from Moretzsohn, and again ten minutes later with an unassisted effort that extended the lead to 3–0. Moretzsohn continued to orchestrate the attack from midfield, finishing the match with one goal and two assists in a standout performance.
The Hawks' offensive depth was on full display as five different players found the back of the net. Javier Montesinos Da Torre added a goal in the 64th minute off another assist from Moretzsohn, while Bangalay Soumahoro made it 5–0 in the 78th minute after a perfectly timed pass from Ahmadou Amar. Just minutes later, Fran Molina-Villafane scored off a setup from Theo Muniz, and Amar capped off the dominant performance in the 88th minute with an unassisted strike to secure the 7–0 victory.
Statistically, the Hawks were in complete control from start to finish. They outshot Raritan Valley 20–8, including a 14–3 advantage in shots on goal, and held a 6–2 edge in corner kicks. Raritan Valley goalkeeper Braeden Mcalarnen did his best to contain the onslaught, recording seven saves, but MVCC's attack proved too powerful. On the defensive side, the Hawks were equally dominant, as goalkeeper Anderson Costa Filho notched another shutout on the season, making three saves to preserve the clean sheet.
With the victory, Mohawk Valley improves to 14–3–1, extending its momentum as it looks to defend its 2024 National Championship and capture a second straight title. The seven-goal outburst marks one of the program's most dominant postseason performances in history.
The Hawks will now turn their focus to the semifinals, where they will take on Bergen Community College on Friday evening. A win would send MVCC back to the National Championship match and one step closer to completing its quest for a historic back-to-back title run.
