#1 Mohawk Valley Rolls Past North Country, 82–62, Behind Cummings' 23 and Childs' 20
Utica, NY — The top-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks took on North Country Community College for an authoritative 82–62 home victory.
Sophomore guard Kevion Cummings turned in a standout performance, pouring in 23 points on 8-for-17 shooting, including three triples, while adding four rebounds and three steals. Perhaps the strongest all-around effort came from forward Darnell Childs, who delivered 20 points, 8 rebounds, and a game-high 7 assists.
Mohawk Valley's starting unit was excellent across the board. Brandon Way Jr. added 15 points, knocking down two three-pointers and providing crucial defensive minutes. Sincere Smith gave the Hawks another offensive spark with 14 points on a highly efficient 5-of-7 shooting day, including two makes from deep. The Hawks bench chipped in an additional six points, highlighted by Sean Paige's eight-rebound performance.
The Saints stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 37–31 at halftime. Mohawk Valley forced 13 turnovers, converting several into fast-break opportunities that opened the game up late. The Hawks also outscored North Country 45–31 in the second half.
Mohawk Valley finished the game shooting 41.4% from the field and 30% from beyond the arc, compared to North Country's 38.6% overall and 21.4% from deep.
The Hawks return to action when Finger Lakes Community College travels to Utica to take on the Hawks on Saturday, November 15th for a 12:00PM tipoff.
