#1 MVCC Cruises Past Finger Lakes Behind Balanced Scoring, 103–82
UTICA, N.Y. — Mohawk Valley Community College exploded for 65 first-half points and never looked back, powering past Finger Lakes Community College, 103–82, on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks' high-tempo offense, fueled by efficient shooting and dominance on the glass, proved too much for the Lakers to overcome.
Mohawk Valley came out firing, hitting 51.9% from the field and knocking down seven threes overall. The Hawks stormed to a 65–40 halftime lead. MVCC finished with 22 assists on 41 made baskets.
Sophomore guard Brandon Way Jr. led the early charge, scoring 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including four triples. Backcourt mate Darnell Childs orchestrated the offense brilliantly, posting a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists, controlling tempo throughout his 37 minutes on the floor.
The Hawks' depth was a major factor. Jaeshaun Felder delivered 22 points off the bench on an efficient 10-of-16 shooting, giving MVCC a steady interior scoring option. Forward Davon Stanley provided physicality, contributing 15 points and a team-high 9 rebounds.
MVCC's ability to score at all three levels kept the Lakers on their heels. Five Hawks finished in double figures: Way Jr. (22), Felder (22), Childs (16), Sincere Smith (15), and Stanley (15).
The Hawks improve to 3-0 on the season, stretching their unbeaten streak from last year to 14 games after capturing to 2024-25 National Championship. The Hawks return to action when they take on Cayuga Community College on Sunday, Novermber 16th at MVCC. The game is set for a 12:00PM tipoff.
