Hawks Drop Opener at Sussex
NEWTON, N.J. — Mohawk Valley Community College fell to Sussex County Community College 17–5 in their opening game of the season.
Sussex County scored eight goals in the opening quarter to build a 8–1 advantage. Mohawk Valley's first-quarter goal came from Kyle Erway, who found the net midway through the period off an assist from Ethan Pogozelski.
The Hawks added two goals in the second quarter to trim the deficit. Julian Fobbs scored off a feed from Bryan Decker, and Pogozelski later converted a man-up opportunity with Carson Collins providing the assist. Despite the push, Sussex County carried an 11–3 lead into halftime.
Mohawk Valley added another goal early in the third quarter when Bryan Badolato scored unassisted. Sussex County responded with a strong stretch, however, adding six more goals in the period to extend the lead to 17–4.
The Hawks closed the scoring in the fourth quarter as Fobbs recorded his second goal of the game, again assisted by Decker.
Fobbs finished with two goals, while Pogozelski added one goal and one assist. Erway and Badolato each scored once for Mohawk Valley, and Decker led the team with two assists. Defensively, Badolato collected five ground balls.
In goal, Anthony Badolato made 20 saves throughout the contest.
The Hawks return to action when they take host Hudson Valley Community College on Tuesday March 17th at noon. The game will be held at Proctor Stadium.
