MVCC Baseball Splits Doubleheader with SUNY Broome
The Mohawk Valley Community College baseball team earned a split in a doubleheader against SUNY Broome on March 24 at Donovan Stadium, dropping the opener 7-3 before responding with a 13-3 victory in Game 2. This concludes the 4 game series against SUNY Broome, splitting the series 2-2. The Hawks return to action when they travel to SUNY Adirondack for a double header on Thursday, March 26.
Game 1: SUNY Broome 7, MVCC 3
Mohawk Valley opened the day with an early push but was unable to keep pace as SUNY Broome pulled away for a 7-3 win.
MVCC scored twice in the first inning and added a run in the fifth, finishing with seven hits. Mathew McNicoll led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate, including a triple and two runs scored. Riley O'Toole drove in two runs, while Franklyn Gutierrez added an RBI.
SUNY Broome responded quickly after the opening frame, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second to take control of the game.
On the mound, Antonio DeMarco took the loss, allowing five runs over two innings. Lucas Komnick provided three innings of relief, giving up two runs (one earned), and Ricky Burch tossed a scoreless inning to close out the game.
Game 2: MVCC 13, SUNY Broome 3
Mohawk Valley rebounded in dominant fashion in Game 2, using a nine-run fourth inning to secure a 13-3 victory.
The Hawks totaled 13 runs on eight hits, taking advantage of six walks and multiple SUNY Broome errors. Bradee Boughner paced the offense with four RBIs, including two triples. Ryan Leos added two RBIs, while Lucas Tucker contributed a triple, an RBI, and scored three runs.
Additional offensive contributions came from Marco Sparace and PJ Yetto, who each drove in a run, while Riley O'Toole also recorded an RBI.
On the basepaths, MVCC applied consistent pressure, with Tucker, McNicoll, and Leos each recording stolen bases.
Ryan Leos earned the win on the mound, pitching a complete six-inning game while allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out two.
