Hawks Split Twinbill with Tompkins Cortland, Rally for Game One Victory

The Mohawk Valley Community College softball team earned a split in Sunday's doubleheader against Tompkins Cortland Community College, rallying late to take game one, 9-7, before falling 7-5 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Hawks used a six-run surge over the final two innings to erase a mid-game deficit and secure the comeback win. MVCC trailed 7-2 after Tompkins Cortland's five-run fifth inning but responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame and four more in the sixth to take control.

Isabella Kleban led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored. Scout Ludwig added two hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, while Kendal Borden contributed a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored. Kendra Genge also chipped in an RBI for the Hawks.

In the circle, Rori Hanks started and allowed two runs over three innings. Kaylee Beam earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing five runs, three earned, while limiting further damage late to preserve the lead.

Tompkins Cortland was paced by Brooklynn Seiger, who collected three hits and two RBI, while Sophie Mayer drove in three runs.

Game two saw the Panthers capitalize on early opportunities, scoring six runs over the first two innings to build a lead over the Hawks.

The Hawks were led by Scout Ludwig, who finished with two hits and an RBI. Paige Morrone added a hit and drove in a run, while Kaylee Beam and Kendra Genge each recorded RBI as well. Leandra Plows scored twice to pace the offense.

Alyssa Peart took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs, five earned, over three innings. Emma Kraszewski provided three scoreless innings of relief, issuing four walks while keeping MVCC within striking distance.

Mohawk Valley returns to action on April 1, hosting Onondaga Community College in a doubleheader at Accelerate Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., with game two to follow at 5:00 p.m.
