Hawks Earn Split with Strong Game 1 Win Over SUNY Adirondack

Mohawk Valley Community College secured a doubleheader split against SUNY Adirondack on April 3 at Donovan Stadium, using a balanced effort to take the opener before dropping the second game.

In Game 1, the Hawks put together a solid all-around performance to earn a 5-3 victory. MVCC tallied eight hits and capitalized on key opportunities in the middle innings to pull ahead.

Riley O'Toole led the offense with a big day at the plate, driving in three runs on two hits to pace the Hawks. Franklyn Gutierrez added a triple and reached base multiple times, while Lucas Tucker, Mathew McNicoll, and Antonio DeMarco each contributed a hit and scored a run.

On the mound, Ryan Leos delivered a strong outing, going 6.1 innings while allowing three runs (two earned) and striking out four to earn the win. Cooper Joslin came on in relief to shut the door, recording the save with two strikeouts to secure the victory.

In Game 2, MVCC once again showed offensive flashes but came up short in a 6-4 loss.

Mathew McNicoll led the way with three hits and an RBI, while Franklyn Gutierrez drove in two runs on a multi-hit performance. Ryan Leos added two hits, including a triple, and Antonio DeMarco chipped in with a double.

The Hawks found themselves trailing early and were unable to fully recover despite a late push. MVCC scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't overcome the deficit.

On the mound, Lucas Tucker took the loss after allowing three runs over 2.1 innings. Ricky Burch and Graydon Hickey provided relief efforts, combining to keep the Hawks within striking distance, but SUNY Adirondack maintained control down the stretch.

The Hawks return to action when they host Monroe Community College on Thursday, April 9th at 2:00PM & 4:00PM at Donovan Stadium at Murnane Field.
