Mohawk Valley Community College fell in both ends of a doubleheader against Cayuga Community College on April 18, 2026, dropping Game 1, 22–8, and Game 2, 11–3.
In the opener, Mohawk Valley showed early promise with three runs in the first inning, but Cayuga responded with a relentless offensive attack. Cayuga plated eight runs in the bottom of the first and continued to add on with multi-run innings in the second and third to take firm control.
Mohawk Valley managed eight runs on just four hits, capitalizing on nine walks. Mathew McNicoll led the way with two hits, including a double, while scoring twice. CJ Kerslake and Franklyn Gutierrez each drove in a run, and Lucas Tucker added an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Game two was low scoring early as both teams were scoreless through the first three innings. Starting pitcher Cohen Cosimeno kept Cayuga off balance before the home team broke through with a seven-run fourth inning to seize momentum. Cayuga added four more runs in the seventh to secure the sweep.
Mohawk Valley responded in the fifth inning with three runs. Ryan Leos drove in a run as part of his two-hit performance, while Franklyn Gutierrez added an RBI. Graydon Hickey and Riley O'Toole each collected two hits, with both players recording doubles to lead the Hawks' eight-hit effort.
On the mound, Cosimeno took the loss, allowing seven runs over 3.2 innings. Ricky Burch provided solid relief, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings, while Zach Zingaro worked the final inning.
The Hawks will look to regroup as they prepare for a double header with Jefferson Community College tomorrow, Sunday April 19th in Watertown, NY.
