MVCC Women's Track and Field Finish as Region III Runner-Up; Hawks Gear Up to Host Nationals May 7–9
Mohawk Valley Community College put together a standout performance at the Region III Championships, hosted on campus May 2nd, finishing as the overall runner-up behind a deep and balanced team effort across sprints, distance, relays, and field events.
On the track, Jaleea Garner led the sprint group with a strong double performance, placing 3rd in both the 100 meters (12.77) and 200 meters (26.13), earning key points in both events. Rayne Winchester added depth across multiple disciplines, placing in the 100, 200, 100 hurdles (2nd place, 21.19), high jump (2nd, 1.24m), and relay events.
Chennia Locke delivered one of the biggest performances of the meet, winning the 100-meter hurdles (15.74) and anchoring MVCC's scoring momentum in the sprint hurdles. Destiny Rushing added points in the 400 hurdles (3rd, 1:35.63) and contributed to both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, helping MVCC secure a 2nd-place finish in the 4x100 (58.19) and 3rd in the 4x400 (5:45.00).
In the distance events, Jasmine Connor added steady scoring in both the 800 and 1500 meters, helping MVCC maintain consistent points throughout the meet.
The field events were a major strength for the Hawks. Jazmine Brown captured a Region III title in the shot put (10.48m), while Nakeisha McKoy added scoring in the shot, discus, hammer, and javelin. Ava White contributed in multiple events as well, including a 5th-place finish in the javelin and participation in the long jump and pole vault.
With scoring spread across nearly every event area, MVCC secured a well-earned second-place finish in Region III competition.
Now, the Hawks shift their focus to an even bigger stage, as Mohawk Valley Community College will host the NJCAA Division III National Championships May 7–9 in Utica. With momentum from a strong regional showing and home-field advantage, MVCC will look to carry its success into the national spotlight.
