Hawks improved to 18-3

The Clinton Community College Cougars men's basketball team traveled a long way only to find out they were no match for Mohawk Valley Community College in a Region III contest on Sunday. The Cougars were sent packing as MVCC won 89-58.

The Hawks, who stretched their wining streak to 14, took charge of this game from the tipoff. Behind the performance of forward Josh Ivey, MVCC ran out to a 47-20 halftime lead.

The Hawks worked the ball inside to Ivey as he lead the squad in scoring with 17 points. This also accounted for the Hawks shooting 51.7 percent (30-58) from the field, which included 36.8 percent (7-19) from three-point range.

At the other end of the floor, the Hawks' defense forced nine steals and held the Cougars' shooting percentage to 37.5 (21-56).

Upon building this large halftime lead, it opened opportunities for the Hawks' bench. MVCC's bench poured in 33 points as Trayvon Holt led the squad with 12 points to go along with his six rebounds. Also hitting double figures for the hosts were starters Tyquan Rolon with 15 points, three assists and seven rebounds. Tyshun Walker added 11 points.

This victory improved the Hawks' record to 18-3 overall and 10-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference.
