The MVCC Lady Hawks knew they had to play an intense and aggressive 40 minutes of basketball to compete with #1 seed Rock Valley on Saturday night. MV put in a hard fought effort but dropped a 68-47 decision to the Golden Eagles in the NJCAA DIII National Semifinals.
Rock Valley held a 9-6 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter before turning on the offense to take a 18-11 lead after one frame. The teams battled back and forth as the Hawks closed within one at 23-22 before Rock Valley scored six points to lead 29-23 at the half. Dionna Rogers led MV in scoring in the first half and finished with a game high 18 points.
The Golden Eagles opened up a 48-31 lead with 1:47 left in the third quarter after Jaycee Cleaver hit three straight three pointers.
MV outscored Rock Valley 14-13 in the fourth quarter as Cheyenne Clark was able to find her groove but it wasn't enough for the Lady Hawks. Clark finished with 16 points and 7 rebounds.
MVCC will play at 5pm Saturday vs Anoka-Ramsey in the NJCAA 3rd place game. Rock Valley will play Roxbury CC at 7pm in the NJCAA National Title Game.
